Kamana Two begins the routines that will remain constant throughout the entire Kamana journey. From here on out, each experience will build on the last until you finish Kamana Four.
This level focuses on getting to know one place on a deep level ecologically and intuitively, sensory awareness exercises, important tools for nature awareness, and journaling species from the six Resource Trail tracks (See A Simple Overview).
A wonderful foundation for one interested in wilderness survival techniques, such as fire making, shelter building, and other primitive skills.
This course truly begins the Path of the Naturalist.

Nature Awareness Trail
What you’ll hand in: Reflections to exercises and maps where needed. Each Field Exercise should take no less than a month to complete, but ideally no more than two months. You’ll also hand in Eight Field Inventories (done weekly).
Field Exercise One: Finding a Secret Spot
This is an area you visit on a regular basis where you will practice exercises that expand your awareness of nature and knowledge of place. You’ll discover it’s much more that just picking a spot to sit in the woods. All future exercises will stem from this searching and mapping experience.
Field Exercise Two: The Sense Meditation
Learning to overcome that little “voice” that prevents us all from really tuning into the language of nature. In other words, “Lose your mind and come to your senses!”
Field Exercise Three: The Thanksgiving Address
From Iroquois tradition, the Thanksgiving Address honors all elements of nature as equal and interdependent. Learn to use this ancient honoring as a tool to deepen your own connection to the natural world.
In Kamana Two, you will begin your Field Inventories. These are on a form (a two sided piece of paper) and are accompanied by a map you make with each inventory.
They are based on the Thanksgiving Address (see paragraph above) and are designed to keep your awareness of the Earth, the people around you, the water cycles, animals, birds, plants, trees, the movements of the sun, the phases of the moon, the weather, the star movements, and more in your “field of awareness” at all times. Ideally these are done weekly. You usually hand in four with each Field pack.
You will complete 10 journals from each of the Six Resource Tracks (see A Simple Overview).
We teach you the art of journaling to develop your mind’s eye, which will be your ultimate tool in learning the species of your area.
This goes beyond journaling from Field Guides verbatim and if done correctly will imprint the plant, tree, bird or animal in your mind’s eye.
The Resource Trail book contains a lot of original information and stories surely not found in any other book about learning nature. You are now on the path of discovering how to learn about nature efficiently and effectively. You’ll have the tools you’ll need to learn outdoor skills and wilderness survival techniques.
How long will this nature course take me?
Kamana Two can take you about four months to complete for the four Field Packs, ideally no more than eight.
