Great Grants and Gifts
to Wilderness Awareness School
Wilderness Awareness School continues to be the grateful recipient of generous grants and gifts that fund scholarships, nature education and the folks on the ground and behind the scenes that make it all possible. We would like to thank the following companies, organizations and individuals for their much-appreciated support!
REI
We are extremely excited to announce that REI awarded us two separate grants of $5,000 each, that funded Session One, Two, Three and Four of a four-session Youth-Mentor Naturalist Training Program (YMNTP). This YMNTP was designed by Lindsay Huettman in cooperation with partner organizations Girl Scouts Camp River Ranch and the African American Academy. The grant has allowed inner-city teens to train in naturalism and to begin to design Community Naturalist Projects to take back to their own neighborhoods.
The REI Foundation's mission is to ensure that tomorrow's outdoor enthusiasts and conservation stewards reflect the diversity of America. Recognizing that most people with a love of the outdoors discover the natural world early in their life, the Foundation's primary efforts are in encouraging active outdoor participation by young people and their families. The Foundation also supports communities by funding recovery efforts from natural disasters and local community programs in honor of deceased REI team members. REI's giving efforts are distinguished by their unique employee-driven approach, with grants guided by local employee nominations. www.rei.com
Google
Google Ad Word Grant 2009-2012
We recently received a massive grant from Google for $10,000 per month or $120,000 per year for Google ad words (those ads that appear on the side of Google searches)!
Google Grants is a unique in-kind donation program awarding free AdWords advertising to select charitable organizations. They support organizations sharing their philosophy of community service to help the world in areas such as science and technology, education, global public health, the environment, youth advocacy, and the arts. The Google Grants program empowers non-profit organizations to achieve their goals by helping them promote their websites via advertising on Google. www.google.com
