The
students got a great deal from what Wilderness Awareness School offered
and were totally engaged...-Daniel Stokes, teacher
Who?
We offer Afterschool Youth Programs for public and independent schools. We love to work with students of any age, especially on a continuing basis.
What?
Like our Summer Camps, Weekly and Monthly Youth Programs, we draw heavily from our comprehensive Youth Programs curriculum, which includes training and development in six different core subjects known as the "Six Shields of Nature Awareness." A typical program involves learning in each of the following six areas:
- Naturalist Skills and Hazards
- Mammal Studies and Tracking
- Plant Studies and Aidless Navigation
- Ecology and Community
- Survival, Earth Skills, and Tree Studies
- Bird Language and Awareness Training
It is our goal to train young people in each of these areas, and our programs usually include teachings from all of these areas; however, we can provide a program that focuses on just one area if requested.
When?
Afterschool! Groups that meet once per week over an extended period of time benefit greatly from repeated exposure to our way of learning.
Where?
Most of our afterschool programs are in the King County area. Our instructional staff meet your participants at school, or a local park.
How Much?
The cost for our afterschool program is likely to cost between $10-$15 per student(1 – 1 1/2 hour program). Cost varies depending on number of students, location, and if students are paid for the entire year, or a shorter block of time.
