Youth Overnight Camps (Summer/Full or Part Time)
Come join Wilderness Awareness School’s summer programs and help bring sustenance and vitality to our students and staff. We have two positions available for a head cook at our semi-wild base camp in Duvall, WA, and we plan to hire two to three assistant cooks.
Location
Linne Doran, our land in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains. Duvall, WA – 45 min. from Seattle, WA
Summer Dates
- Prep and Kitchen Set-Up: June 9th – 13th, 2025
- Staff Training: June 16th – 20th, 2025
- Summer Camp Overnight weeks: June 23rd – August 22nd, 2025 (typically work 5 of 9 weeks)
- Summer Wrap & Debrief: August 18th – 22nd, 2025
Head Cook Responsibilities
Facilitate and implement all facets of meal delivery for a group of up to 40 students and staff weekly. Including:
- Follow a pre-set menu with opportunities for creativity.
- Review and plan for special dietary needs and allergies of participants.
- Use natural, organic, and local ingredients as possible within budget.
- Coordinate with program staff on timing and delivery of meals.
- Food preparation, cooking, serving, and kitchen cleanup.
- Lead and supervise kitchen helpers (including assistant cooks, staff helpers & participant volunteers).
- Maintain kitchen facilities with a high standard of organization and cleanliness.
- Monitor food supplies and efficient use of ingredients on hand.
- Restock food supplies as needed (store, bulk, farmers market).
- Budget responsibly including handling of money, school credit card and receipts as relevant.
Assistant Cook Responsibilities
Assist the Head Cook in facilitating and implementing all facets of meal delivery for a group of up to 40 students and staff weekly. Including:

- Maintain kitchen facilities with a high standard of organization and cleanliness.

Cook Qualifications
- Flexible, responsible, good-humored, and team-oriented
- Excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and ability to give/receive feedback
- Experience with food service for large groups OR a strong desire to learn; Camp experience a plus
- Must enjoy working with youth campers and adult staff and volunteers
- Ability to lift 50 pounds
- Willingness to work days, evenings, and weekends as needed
- Clean driving record and access to a personal vehicle or over 25 years old to drive a school van
- King County Food Worker Card required (easy to obtain)
Compensation/Benefits
- Head Cook: $1,275 salary exempt per camp (approximately $25.50 per hour)
- Assistant Cook: $946 salary exempt per camp (approximately $21.50 per hour)
- On-site housing and all utilities provided including high speed internet
- A majority of your food during the times when you are cooking
