At Wilderness Awareness School, we are so lucky to have a community that includes engaged and empowered parents of our youth students! We are excited to be harnessing the power of our parents through our Parent Council, which started in Winter 2024.
Purpose:
The intention of the Parent Council is to continue fostering a partnership between Wilderness Awareness School and the families of our Youth Program students, in support of the achievement and well-being of all enrolled students.
Members of the Parent Council:
- Identify and recommend opportunities that enrich the experience of all youth students
- Champion projects to foster community-building amongst students, families, and staff
- Represent and act as a resource for all parents of Youth Program students
- Facilitate opportunities for parents to support staff at the School
- Assist with marketing Youth Programs to the community
- Continue to develop the goals of the Parent Council charter, structure, and responsibilities
Membership:
The Parent Council is made up of 4-7 parents of currently enrolled Wilderness Awareness School youth program participants, as well as the School Year Program Manager. This is a volunteer position. Members are responsible for attending at least 7 of the 9 total meetings scheduled during the school year.
Schedule:
The Parent Council generally meets 4-6pm on the fourth Tuesday of each month September-May, and optionally during the summer months June-August. Meetings will take place at our land Linne Doran (preferred) or over Zoom (when needed). The meeting date/time may slightly shift depending on the individual schedules of each Council member.
Additionally, Parent Council members will participate in supporting Youth Program activities throughout the year, such as the Fall Kick-Off, potlucks, marketing efforts, graduation, etc.
